To view: Twin Peaks

The recommendation this time is one of the most innovative television series of all time, Twin Peaks, amazing creation of David Lynch (director of Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, etc.) .
American
This series premiered on April 8, 1990. The story unfolds in a seemingly peaceful town in the northern United States (Twin Peaks), which, after the murder of a girl loved by all the people, model daughter and student, an FBI agent arrives to investigate and try to catch the culprit.
From that moment they discover the dark secrets of people living in the town where glue is that everyone has walked on them, including (and especially) the victim ...

This series changed the way we do television in the 90's, which in those days rarely mixing styles or genres in one program. Twin Peaks is a crime and drama series, yet is a mystery series, paranormal phenomena and a little comedy. Perhaps now many series (the most famous of these Lost ) combine these styles, but Twin Peaks was the first to do it and David Lynch owe their existence.

If you've ever seen the work of Lynch, you know that it is not clear or straightforward. He likes to use symbolism, surreal scenes that may not seem to make much sense but are very deep and can be interpreted in different ways. In Twin Peaks This is clearly shown. A story that at first seems interesting and entertaining but realistic is introducing complex, even taboo questions the time as the systematic sexual abuse of one of the main characters, drug addiction, incest and prostitution, and on a more "sci-fi " evil spirits chasing a family, meaningless dreams that reveal vital information to be interpreted to solve the murder and the appearance and disappearance of objects and people.

The influence that this series had on popular culture gringa was enormous: Twin Peaks became a cult hit and instantly. Magazines, and newspapers, like the people on the street wondering who was the murderer of the young Laura Palmer. Shirts, posters, books and other promotional items were sold throughout the country. The identity of the murderer was unknown even to the actors of the series and each chapter a character proved his innocence and another appeared as the new suspect. There was talk of the series into the dialogues of other series and even cartoons. In The Simpsons have been several references to the series, the first in the "Who shot Mr. Burns?" (Chapter 1, season 7) where they appear Lisa and police chief Wiggum in the famous red room:).

addition to the series, the film was recorded Fire Walk With Me , supplementing the series and finally appears for the terrible scene where Laura is murdered. The film was a flop, but for any fan of the series is a vital piece of information is revealed in the series never appear or only mentioned.

Another attraction of and Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me are the players who participated in this project. The leading role of the series led him Kyle MacLachlan playing the FBI agent Dale Cooper. Kyle has worked with Lynch in Dune and most notably the Oscar nominated film Blue Velvet . Dale Cooper is perhaps the most sympathetic FBI agent, intelligent and charming (and that was very cool lol) television. The role he was perfect and Kyle became one of the favorite TV actors of the United States at that time (the series would return years later in Sex and The City and Desperate Housewives) . Also displayed the singers David Bowie and Chris Isaak, a very young Kiefer Sutherland and David Duchovny and even the David Lynch, all of them as agents of the FBI.

important part of the series is so strange that uses symbols Lynch: the forest, owls, ring, creamed corn, cherry pie, coffee, blue roses, etc. Nothing is what it seems in this story and the characters are so strange and unique as their situations: a dwarf dancer who speaks pronouncing words backwards, a giant, a psychologist obsessed with Hawaii, a dominant wife with one eye, a senior FBI talking screaming, a cop who cries all, a one-armed man and above all, an evil spirit with long hair.

After the first season (which ended in a cliffhanger , something also innovative in that time and now virtually all series do), such was the urgency of the public to know the identity of the murderer that the network pressured Lynch to reveal it as soon as possible. Lynch had not planned provide this information will never (seriously) but had to do reluctantly. Once they knew who had killed Laura Palmer in the middle of the second season, the program's rating declined considerably and it was decided to end the series with only two seasons and 30 episodes.

The series is very well armed and identity of the murderer is really a surprise, but Lynch leaves tracks clear a few chapters before the official unveiling. Not reveal the end of the series, just tell that after watching 30 episodes of 1 hour, 2 hour pilot and movie longer than 2 hours, the end is one of the most unexpected and shocking desperate I've seen in my life. The first time I saw him I was left with an impression that I was not moved in several days, seriously.

Twin Peaks is not a simple series or light, is complicated and requires attention to 100% of the beholder. Is a series that makes you think, is like trying to solve a puzzle for which each has a different solution.

There is much to say about this work of David Lynch but will finish this recommendation saying that if you like dark stories, intelligent and complex, this series is definitely for you. It will not be to the liking of many, but those who come to cherish will have found a real gem.

Twin Peaks is on sale on DVD (in two seasons) ... There is no official website but there are many fan-created, where even though the series has an end and solve the main mystery of history, there are still many points in the air that people keep trying to solve ... Lynch excellent work!!
